[Swoosh] Dare To Be Brasilian: No One Plays Like Us

FIFA World Cup 2014. Brazil. Right at the home of 5-times World Cup champion. Should be interesting to see the football giant trying to win the most prestigious football tournament in the world in front of the home crowd.

In fact, I expect Brazil's journey will be quite bumpy especially having Crotia, Mexico, and Cameroon as their opponents in the group stage. Then again, this is World Cup - anything is possible.

Meanwhile, the folks at Nike Football - being one of the major partner for the team - have not only come out with a brand new jersey for Brazil to wear at the tournament but also, a short film featuring some of their major players such as Neymar, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Paulinho, and Bernard. Even the team manager, Luiz Felipe Scolari also appeared in the 90-seconds film (this is not his first appearance in a Nike's production though).

Apparently crafted to celebrate the world-famous Brazilian style of football, the film blends fiction and reality in order to bring viewers into the mind and personalities of these individuals as well as their approach to the game. Well, I'll just let the video say for itself:

P/S: Look out for a cameo appearance by a certain Brazilian football legend. I think he is following Cantona's footsteps...:3

[Swoosh] Nike Football Hi-Vis Boots Collection Are Heading To Malaysia, Expect To Arrive Mid-Oct

Since their decision to equip their athletes at World Cup 2010 with boots in visually striking colours, such colour theme seems to become a norm in Nike Football family of boots these days. Hence, the new Nike Football Hi-Vis (which actually stands for High-Visibility) Collection might be seen as yet another repetition of the theme but that is not actually the case according to the people at Swoosh.

Apparently, the colorways on Nike Football Hi-Vis boots are made for the year-end winter season where the condition are darker and having such visible football boots might be able to help players on the field. Phil McCartney, the Vice President of Nike Football Footwear explains further:

“In a game that’s more congested and faster than ever the small percentages are becoming more important. If a player can get that flash of colour in their periphery, and see a teammate make a run, that could be the small difference between timing the pass perfectly or not taking advantage - that’s the sort of moment that can change the course of a game at the top level.” - Phil McCartney, Vice President, Nike Football Footwear.

Well, we don’t have winter over at this part of the world but nevertheless, I guess the highly visible nature of Nike Football Hi-Vis boots might be able to help football players out there gain better successful passing rate with their fellow teammates. Of course, this is in addition to techs that are readily existed in all four boots in the collection.

Priced at RM 799 and RM 780 respectively, the Hi-Vis version of Nike Hypervenom and Mercurial IX are draped in Electro Purple and Volt combo with black detailing. Meanwhile, the Hi-Vis Nike Tiempo IV and CTR360 comes in Volt, Green Glow and Electric Green combo also with black detailing together with a price tag of RM 549 and RM 649 respectively.

All four Nike Football Hi-Vis boots are expected to arrive in Malaysia by mid-October.

[Vroom Vroom] KTM 1290 Super Duke R: Wheelie In Any Gear

189kg.
180HP.
0 to 200km/h in 7.2 seconds.
Wheelie in any gear...SAY WHAT?

So, KTM 1290 Super Duke R a.k.a "The Beast" is finally official. Even though it is obvious that I'm not able to afford it (maybe for now), I'm still looking at it with much interest especially being an existing owner of the smaller KTM 200 Duke.

One thing for sure: it made me much more eager to obtain the full B license. Vroom vroom. :3

[Kicks Alert] CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP To Land At Juice KL On 21 September

After making its debut in Shanghai earlier this month, the new CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 SP will finally land in Malaysia this week. Obviously, the brand chooses their own flagship store - Juice Kuala Lumpur in Bangsar - as their preferred spot to release the new shoes.

Here’s how CLOT described their latest collaboration piece with Nike:

The Nike Air Max 1 CLOT shoe focuses on material and design as a source of expression with the use of mesh and a hint of green accents that standout among the cement color schemes. The new Hyperfuse see-through mesh toe box is a revision from the previous plastic that was used.

Within the shoe, the sockliners reveal the meridian map of the lower limb, ending at the pressure point Yongquan. The precise position of Yongquan is one of the most important pressure points of the body, connecting the person to the earth. The pressure point is precisely marked on the bottom sole of the shoe.

In addition, the heels of each shoe displays the CLOT and Nike Shen logo in between long braids that are a personal trademark of MC Yan.

Unfortunately, the release at Juice KL will not come with the special packaging as it was made exclusively for Juice Hong Kong and Juice Online.

The price for Clot x Nike Air Max 1 SP has been set at RM 599 and will be made available on the first come, first serve basis starting from 12pm. So, make your way to Juice KL at Bangsar this coming Saturday, 21 September if you plan to cop a pair home.

[Hari Malaysia]: "Harimau Malaya, Everywhere" - My Little Tale For 50×50 My Malaysia Project

If you have been reading this blog or stalked followed all my rants + nonsense through Twitter/Facebook/Instagram, you might have noticed that I like to wear our national football team - the Harimau Malaya - jersey whenever I was on assignment outside the country.

The reason? Well, that is the subject of my...I actually don’t know what to call it – short story, article, blog post, writings...entitled “Harimau Malaya, Everywhere” that I wrote for 50x50 My Malaysia project by Niki Cheong.

Somehow, it was one of the first story to be published on 50x50 My Malaysia’s site. Plus, it went online on 31 August - right on our Merdeka Day. Wow.

Check it out right here at 50x50 My Malaysia’s website and don't forget to check out the 50x50 My Malaysia physical exhibition itself over at the Level 5 and 6 (Link Bridge) of Pavilion KL from today, Hari Malaysia, 16 September onwards till 22 September to see and learn about the whole 50x50 My Malaysia project.

Much thanks to Niki for actually considering my silly little tale to be part of the project. :D

[Huiyoh] Volvo Demonstrates Steering System By Letting...A Hamster Drive Their Truck

Volvo: what the first thing that usually pop up on you mind when that name is mentioned? In my humble opinion, the brand definitely have seen better days but safety is still one of those thing that the brand still excels and well-known for.

That being said, I don’t know how real this demonstration is. Nevertheless, having a hamster (the animal, not Richard Hammond) drive a damn truck to demonstrate Volvo Dynamic Steering system on the truck is an instant viral gold.

Volvo’s other YouTube video which depicts Claes Nilsson, the President of Volvo Trucks himself standing on a Volvo FMX truck (the same model used in the hamster video above) elevated over water to demonstrate the truck’s hook is quite interesting as well.

It’s apparently quite real and was done in a single take. Hmm.

[Music Monday] Hit The Lights By Metallica: Live In Singapore, Captured With Nokia Lumia 925

So, it have been more than a week since I saw Metallica in Singapore. Man, there is no need for me to say how good that night was – to be able to see not only one of the biggest band in the world but also one of my biggest idol in music.

Alongside me is a Nokia Lumia 925 which I’m currently reviewing and there is usually only one reason why I would bring a review unit out in a place full of crowd: to test it. Since the Lumia 925’s PureView camera is said to have very good low-light performance, I figured a concert would be a good place to test the camera (together with its optical image stabilization and HAAC mic) out.

Enjoy the clip - in its actual format, fully unedited – but do change the video resolution to 720p to see the video in its native size. Sorry, I forgot to set the camera to 1080p. =/

Stay tuned for pictures from the show…yup, snapped through Nokia Lumia 925 (there’s one example at the top of this post)…soon enough!

P/S: There was someone said "Metallica dah sampai!" somewhere at the beginning of the video. That was me. :p

[Random] So, Ramadhan Is Here Once Again...

Suddenly, a box of Yusuf Taiyoob's dates. You know what season it is now, people. *whispers* Bulan puasa dah sampai.

Don't get me wrong though. Of course Ramadhan means more than just a box of well-marketed dates. In fact, the beauty of Ramadhan to me is that you just never know what it has in store for you, year after year.

Anyway, happy Ramadhan to all, wherever you may be. May this blessed month brings you peace and everything that you seeks for. :D

[All My WTF] My Honest Feeling Regarding The Start Button In Windows 8.1 Preview

Do excuse me: this is a bit lengthy. But fortunately, not in words.

So. Microsoft have recently released the new Windows 8.1 Preview which featured many fixes in all sort of area for Windows including the “return” of the Start button. Obviously, I installed it just to see what's up.

Frankly speaking, there is no difference for me whether the button is there or not as I’m already used to Windows 8 interface (using touch-based device helps a lot) but nevertheless, this new Start button in Windows 8.1 somehow left me a bit puzzles.

Because this is not the Start button that we all know from Windows 95 to Windows 7.

[Huiyoh] Glow-Suit Dancers At Intel's Computex 2013 Party

I don't whether it is a written tradition or just natural, a lot of tech companies organize a gathering or a party for media and their guests during Computex in Taipei. This year (which is my second time in Computex), I ended up at Intel's party since they are the one who invited me there.

Despite the fact that I didn't get to stay long (it's Computex = work in beast mode!) there, I get to check out these glow-suit dancers over there:

While there are many things from Computex 2013 that I've yet to published, I've already posted quite a number of them including several demo videos over at Lowyat.TV such as this Intel Bay Trail demo, Intel Iris Graphics demo, NVIDIA Shield demo and an introduction to both Razer Blade as well as Razer Blade Pro with Razer's CEO himsef, Min-Liang Tan.

Do check them out if you are game for them. :D

[Music Monday] Ava Adore by The Smashing Pumpkins

Smashing Pumpkins Live @ Padova

I admit: I'm not what you can call as a “fan” of The Smashing Pumpkins but I do like the band despite only knowing a handful of their songs such as 1979, Cherub Rock, Tonight, Tonight, Today, The End Is The Beginning Is the End and this particular one - my personal favorite - Ava Adore.

Taken from their album called Adore, it was actually the first Smashing Pumpkins’ song that I ever heard thanks to this one TV channel (I forgot which one) who played it almost on daily basis before they start their normal transmission years ago. Think I was in secondary school that time...

Anyway, the band is coming to Kuala Lumpur (yezzz!) later this August to headline the Good Vibes Festival and with that, my entry for his week’s Music Monday is to celebrate that news. Can’t wait, woot! :D

[Swoosh] Quick Look: The New Nike Hypervenom Football Boot, Blazing To Malaysia This August

Revealed to the world just few hours ago in Rio by the world famous striker and Brazil’s hometown hero Neymar, say hello to Nike Football’s latest football boot: the Nike Hypervenom. Apparently, the new addition to Nike Football’s line-up will be replacing the long-running T90 series.

The Nike Hypervenom comes with a NikeSkin-based upper which is technically a combination of a soft supple mesh bound and a thin polyurethane film. The upper is also treated with Nike All Conditions Control technology which gives it consistent level of traction regardless in wet or dry pitch.

Together with the help from some of the world’s top podiatrists, Nike also created a decoupled outsole for the boot which comes with a groove in the forefoot area that is said to allow the first metatarsal – the bone that defines reaction time of the foot’s first movement – to be activated quickly. Furthermore, the outsole is also made from compressed nylon which made it responsive while being lightweight at the same time.

[Don’t Sleep On This] Nike x Undefeated “Bring Back Pack” Part II: Coming To In Juice KL On May 25 For RM 579

Back in February, two giants in their own right - Nike and Undefeated - unleashed special edition Nike Dunk Hi and Nike Hyperdunk that are called "Bring Back Pack" are themed after an one-off Nike Dunk Hi that were conceived to celebrate Undefeated’s first store.

Obviously, the reaction was pretty good when the collection landed in Malaysia at Juice KL last March. Well, I expect the scene will be more or less the same when the SECOND (yup, part 2!) pack - officially called Nike x Undefeated “Bring Back 2003” - goes on sale at Juice KL in Bangsar tomorrow’s noon (May 25).

[Music Monday] Right Again by Yuna

So...Yuna's latest album has hit the market. By album, I mean an EP. Specifically, the Sixth Street EP.

As usual, the song that I found myself listening to the most out of the 5-tracks EP is not the first single (which is I Wanna Go, produced by Mike Einziger of Incubus tu). Instead, it is the second track that is called Right Again.

Right Again by Yuna on Deezer

Right Again by Yuna on Spotify

This time around, I can’t really explain the reason why I kept on looping the song for the past few days. Maybe because of the lyrics in the song. Maybe because of the song’s laid-back melody accompanied by Yuna’s sort-of-spacey vocal. Maybe it is the mood in the air.

Well, I guess there are times when you really like something without any reason. You just...like it.

[(The Fashionably Late) Music Monday] Politik by Coldplay

Coldplay Live in Abu Dhabi 2012 New Year's Eve

Frankly speaking, I hate politics. A necessary evil, they said but from my observations...what politics do most of the time is breaking up harmony and destroying friendship regardless of the scale.

This classic track from Coldplay echoed loudly in my mind throughout the recent election season. Especially this particular part of the song:

"In confusion, confidence
Give me peace of mind and trust
Don't forget the rest of us
Give me strength; reserve control
Give me heart and give me soul
Wounds that heal and cracks that fix."

Regardless of what happened or which side your supported during the recent election (one of the most hotly contested, if not the hottest), open up your eyes. There are a lot of lessons need to be learned (and relearned) from it, for the betterment of our beloved Malaysia.

[Music Monday] Ain't It Fun By Paramore

PARAMORE @ THE GARAGE

So, Paramore released their fourth album (a self-titled one as well) earlier this month. While the band chose to put out Now and Still Into You as the main singles from their new album, I personally feels that there are stronger songs in the album such this particular track: Ain't It Fun.

Got to say that the reason why I'm so fond of this song is its groovy melody and the feel good-like vibe. That being said, the lyrics are rather typical of Paramore though.

"So what are you gonna do when the world don’t orbit around you?". Hmmm.

[Music Monday] Get Lucky by Daft Punk Featuring Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers

Daft Punk haven’t come out with a studio album for quite some time, so it is obvious that Get Lucky – the first single from their upcoming new album, Random Access Memories - has generated a lot of buzz. IMHO, the French electronic duo worked their magic very well once again as this track certainly didn't disappoint me.

Working together with two other legends in their own right - Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes/N.E.R.D and Nile Rodgers of Chic – Get Lucky to me is unlike any previous releases by the duo as it has more R&B and funk feel rather than electronic music. Meanwhile, I’m very curious about the music video for this song since the little teaser that they showed prior to the single’s release looks just as funky as the song that it represents.

By the way, do you know that the video above is actually animated despite giving the impression that it is just an audio-only video? Just wait for it and you might be surprised....

[Running] Boston Marathon

Whether you are a veteran or a beginner, it is not hard to miss the tales of Boston Marathon - the oldest annual marathon in the world. Especially the part where you first need to set a good finish time in other certified marathons that is within Boston Marathon’s qualifying times before you can actually register for the event.

Because of that, many runners has made Boston Marathon as one of their life goals including yours truly. I might not even run beyond my usual 10K races and slacking in my training but Boston is definitely one of the great marathons that I aimed to run at some point of my life.

Truth to be told, the bomb attacks at the event few days ago left me rather speechless: why would someone attack a marathon? Runners are generally peaceful bunch of people who many are advocates of healthy lifestyle which in hand is among the last people on earth that you can associated with violence.

The incident also made me a little bit shaken since I then realized that such attack could happen at any given running event throughout the world, be it a small community event or a large scale national fest. Running events is supposed to be about achievement, triumph and happiness.

Not about sadness, confusion, fear and death. =/

[Music Monday] A View To A Kill by Duran Duran

I seriously have no idea why this song stuck on my mind for the past week or so. While this song being one of the most well-known Bond theme of all and I'm a huge fan of James Bond movies but I'm not a fan of this song as a Bond theme. I prefer the usual R&B or ballad-like theme rather than a pop song.

Nevertheless, it is still a Duran Duran classic. That fact alone deserved a respect, lol. xD

Meanwhile, if you have any songs or artists that you would like me to check out, I'm just a tweet away at twitter.com/chapree. :D

[Jom Kita Layaaaaan] Bila Pemain Manchester United Bertutur Bahasa Melayu Dengan Mamee Monster

JOM KITA LAYAAAAAAAAAAAN. :D *mukatroll.jpg*

[Vroom Vroom] The Making of a KTM Motorcycle

Three months ago, I finally bought myself a bike after 3 - 4 years of taking public transportation which started when my then 7-years-old scooter broke down for the nth time and I decided not to bother about repairing it anymore. The bike that I choose is a KTM. Specifically, a KTM Duke 200.

To some, KTM Duke 200 is not exactly a pure KTM breed as it was developed through a collaboration between KTM and an Indian company called Bajaj which eventually led to Duke 200 being manufactured in Bajaj’s factory. I don’t actually give a flying damn about that though – to me, the KTM Duke 200 is still as orange as those fully made in Austria.

Try ride the damn thing if you get the chance and you’ll feel it yourself too. Nope, you can’t ride my bike. Not a chance. :p

Oh right, melalut pulak gua. About this short video feature...well, I love checking out how cars/bike/stuff are made which is why I was so delighted when I saw this video. Furthermore, it is about KTM, so...hehehe. :D

The limited edition KTM 250 SX-F Ken Roczen bike.

Produced by the folks at Red Bull (which is also an Austrian company just like KTM), it focuses on KTM’s motocross bikes which I guess because the company is well known for those bikes. Nevertheless, I believe all the things that the KTM folks talked in the video applies to all types of bikes (and car- yeah, the outfit actually made a car called X-Bow) that KTM manufactured there.

This feature is too short though and didn’t touch on other type of bikes that KTM has. It is a nicely produced video though, so yeah...

On another hand, KTM’s own blog has posted several awesome behind-the-scenes feature of their own as well which covers several areas such as its engine plant, KTM RC250R racing bike and Red Bull KTM Ajo Factory Team’s 2013 RC250GP Moto3 bike. Do check it out if you love bikes and motorsports, in general.

Me and my KTM Duke 200. :D

By the way, do excuse me if this sounds so cheesy and syok sendiri but…damn, I love my KTM Duke 200. *megustaface.jpg*

[Music Monday] Welcome To The Jungle by Guns N' Roses, Live at 2013 Formula One Petronas Malaysia GP

While the show might not be featuring the band's original line-up apart from Axl, I still immensely enjoyed the post-race concert by Guns N' Roses at Sepang International Circuit during the 2013 Formula One Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix. At the very least, I finally got see the band performed all my favorite GnR songs such as this one below:

After a whole day at the circuit, my Nokia Lumia 920's battery was almost flat out and Welcome To The Jungle was the only song that I managed to capture last night. If you felt that Axl's voice doesn't have much ummpph in this song, I can't blame you as I felt the same way too. That being said, this song was played quite early in the band's 2-hours set and to me, Axl's voice gradually improved as the show goes by.

I wonder who will the Malaysian GP folks bring to KL for next year's race. Can we have Metallica or Foo Fighters plz? :D

[What’s Up] Sound City Screening At The Bee Tomorrow!

It sounds like I’m the last one who heard the news (I somehow missed the notice on LYN's sister site Hype.my) but yeah, apparently there will be a screening of Dave Grohl’s Sound City at 9PM tomorrow, March 18 at The Bee in Publika. AWWW YISSS~

Some of you might have already know that I already watched Sound City before as I bought the digital version of the movie from its official website right on its premier night last month but I’m still excited for the screening and if weather permits, I’m so going to be there to watch it.

Doesn't matter if this is the n-th I’m watching the move (heck, I go the documentary inside my own Nokia Lumia 920 – I kinda used the documentary to test sound output on review devices these days) but it’s Sound City weh! Plus, it costs only RM 10 and the proceeds will be passed to charity. I don't fancy going to Publika even though I’ve my own transportation now but this is definitely a must-attend occasion.

So, who’s with me? In case you need more consideration, check out my review of Sound City right here and I’ll see you tomorrow at The Bee! :D

[Thanks for the tips, Albert!]

[Music Monday] You Can’t Fix This By Stevie Nicks, Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins and Rami Jaffee

“You can’t fix this, you lost a friend,
Hearts breaking, right and left,
Friendships break like glass...and the devil pours another glass.”

I don’t actually know why I like this song. Is it the lyrics? Is it the music by Dave Grohl and the gang? Is it the infectious vocals by Stevie Nicks? Maybe because I love Sound City so much?

Well, it could be all the reason above. But if there’s one thing really true about those lyrics is that never dance with the devil. He will surely burn you down.

[Swoosh] Quick Look: The 2013 French National Football Team Away Kit

Brazil is not the only national team that has receive a new kit from Nike Football recently as just few days ago the company has unveiled the new away kit for the French national football team. Built with the same environmental-friendly method and material as well as performance features like the Brazilian kit, the new French away kit seems to be quite a departure from last year’s kit that the team wore in Euro 2012.

First off, the 2013 kit is in pale blue instead of 2012’s white. In addition to that, there’s also the signature tricolore detailing of red, white and blue on its sleeve. That being said, Nike Football has still maintain the long-time “Nos differences nous unissent” (“Our differences unite us”) motto inside the 2013 away kit.

[Swoosh] Quick Look: The 2013 Brazil National Team Home Kit

Used for the first time in a friendly match against England earlier this month, the Brazil national football team is now decked in yet another new home jersey by Nike Football. Draped in the team’s signature yellow and green color scheme, the new kit somehow reminded me of classic football jerseys especially its collar design as well as its minimalism nature.

Nevertheless, it is still a modern jersey after all with the inclusion of features such as laser venting, bonded seams, hemline vents and Dri-FIT technology in order to provide performance benefits for modern football players. As usual, the jersey is matched together with a blue shorts, and white socks with green trim.

[Don't Sleep On This] Nike x Undefeated "Bring Back Pack" Lands At Juice KL On March 1, The Only Retailer in Southeast Asia

So, Kuala Lumpur is going to receive the Nike x Undefeated “Bring Back Pack” eh? That is rather unexpected. Nevertheless, listen up sneakers connoisseurs out there…expect massive crowd as Juice KL in Bangsar is the only retailer in Southeast Asia that has receive the honor to unleash the pack to the masses.

Just like many of Nike’s releases out there, there is indeed a story behind this pack. Apparently, Nike has presented 48 pairs of white-on-white-on-gum Nike Dunks to the folks at Undefeated as an act of good faith during the opening of the first Undefeated store in 2002. The Dunks were never released into the market…until now, like eleven years later.

Made of a Nike Dunk and Hyperdunk (both in the said white-on-white-on-gum colorway, with Undefeated’s iconic 5 strikes logo on it), the pack will be released at the outlet on this coming Friday, 1 March 2013 at noon. No pricing was mentioned for either of them though.

Nevertheless, have fun and good luck on copping them up!

[Chap At Large] The Day I Raced and Won Against Top Gear Korea Host…in A Video Game

It is not every day that you get to meet and race a Top Gear’s host. Ok, he might not be Clarkson, May or Hammond from Top Gear UK but nevertheless, Yeon Jung-hoon is still a host for Top Gear. Top Gear Korea, that is.

It took place at the media launch event for the premier of Top Gear Korea’s season 2 on KIX HD last month in which the host and actor flew all the way from South Korea to attend. I really didn't expect anything much because my assignment of the day was to learn what KIX HD has in store for Top Gear Korea season 2.

[Swoosh] Nike Flyknit Lunar1+: The First Nike Flyknit Shoe In Malaysia

When the Nike Flyknit tech was introduced to the world last February, it spawned two shoes: the Nike Flyknit Trainer+ and the Nike Flyknit Racer. Unfortunately, both of these shoes are not (yet) available in Malaysia; however, the newer Nike Flyknit Lunar1+ is now readily available in Malaysia.

Being the third shoe in Nike’s Flyknit family, the new Nike Flyknit Lunar1+ is a combination of Flyknit one-piece lightweight upper - which is designed to provide exceptional sock-like fit – and a plush, responsive Lunarlon-based midsole. Compared to the more hardcore Trainer+ and Racer, the Lunar+ 1 has more cushion and is clearly made to cater the needs of everyday runners.
